Französische Filmwoche Berlin 2026

What it is

The Französische Filmwoche is the yearly showcase of French and francophone film in Germany, an initiative of the Institut français and Unifrance running since 2000. Each edition brings around thirty to forty films of every kind, most as German premieres shown before their regular release, with directors and actors present for on-stage talks. Berlin is the festival's home; the programme then travels to more than 25 cities across Germany.

Beyond Berlin the festival plays in more than 25 German cities. The Institut français Berlin, in the same building as the Cinema Paris, also holds free screenings and children's workshops.

For French learners and families

The festival carries a strong young-audience arm. Cinéfête, its school film festival, shows eight films in the original French with German subtitles for language teaching, and there are children's film workshops at the Cinema Paris and the Institut français, plus a Franco-German youth media residency.

Original French with subtitles

Whether any Berlin screening also offers English subtitles is set per screening and not promised in advance, so check the individual screening before you count on it.
