01One cookie

The site sets a single cookie, named locale, when you switch the language. It holds two letters, de or en, so that the server can send you to your language on your next visit. It expires after a year and is read by nothing but KinoNow. There is still no cookie banner: consent is only needed for cookies that do more than remember a choice you made.

02Your settings stay in your browser

The filters live in your browser's localStorage, not on our server: the languages you understand, whether dubbed screenings are shown, format filters like IMAX or open air, and the place you picked, with its coordinates. You can clear all of this; the button also removes the locale cookie.

03Your location

When you list screenings around you or around an address, the coordinates go to our server, which answers with the screenings and stores nothing. They travel in the body of the request, so they never appear in a URL.

What you type into the address search also goes to our server, which forwards the text to Geoapify, an EU geocoding service, to get suggestions. Geoapify receives the text and the language, nothing else: not your IP address, no identifier. Frequent searches are answered from a cache on our server that keeps the typed text and its suggestions, not who asked.

04Counting visits

Visits are counted with Fathom Analytics, whose script your browser loads from cdn.usefathom.com. It sets no cookie, stores nothing in your browser and cannot follow you across sites. We only ever see totals, like how many visitors a page had, from which country they came, or how often a booking link was clicked.

05What comes from other servers

Fetching content from a server always tells that server your IP address; that is how the web works. Almost everything on KinoNow comes from our own server. The exceptions: film posters load from image.tmdb.org, the American film database TMDB, which also supplies our film details. The cinema map loads its tiles from the BKG, Germany's federal mapping agency. And the Fathom script above. None of these services is sent your name, your filters or your chosen location.

06Booking links

Showtime and ticket links lead to the cinema's own website or ticket shop. From there, their privacy policy applies.

07Where the site runs

The site runs on a server at OVH in Gravelines, in the north of France, on France's low-carbon electricity. The database is hosted by OVH too, in the European Union.
