Karl-Marx-Allee 33, 10178 Berlin
Kino International opened in 1963 as the German Democratic Republic's flagship premiere cinema and stands on Karl-Marx-Allee as a monument of socialist-modernist architecture. Josef Kaiser and Heinz Aust designed it. Its monumental foyer and auditorium, 506 seats since the restoration, once hosted every major East German film premiere, and the building has a sweeping glass facade and geometric reliefs. Today it is a Berlinale venue and home to the long-running MonGay LGBTQ+ screening series. It is currently under comprehensive renovation and is expected to reopen in 2026.
