The Arsenal, now the Arsenal Filminstitut, was founded in 1963 by Erika and Ulrich Gregor. Since 3 May 2026 its cinema has played in the Westhalle of the silent green Kulturquartier in Wedding, a former crematorium on Plantagenstraße. The hall seats 169 and projects 8, 16, 35 and 70 mm film as well as DCP. Its programme runs to retrospectives, experimental work and international films that rarely find commercial distribution. The Arsenal co-organises the Berlinale Forum. Its archive holds some 10,000 titles, and researched thematic programmes draw on them through the year.
