Woki Bonn

The Woki opened on 1 October 1998 in the rooms of the Universum, a cinema of 1956 on Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz, and took its name from the Wochenschau-Kino that showed newsreels on Gangolfstraße from 1954 to 1984. The Universum's wild-goose lamps of 1956 still hang in the Goldener Saal, rebuilt in 2015 and now seating 248, many of them love-seats. The Blauer Saal holds 142 in steep stadium rows, the Roter Saal 80. Founded by Rainer Otto and operated by CineVision Filmtheater GmbH, it has passed five million admissions and was voted Germany's favourite cinema in January 2018. Up to 25 films a week is an unusual spread for Bonn, of which the house counts about a fifth as demanding work; the rest is first-run, and dubbed.
