Neue Straße 8, 38100 Braunschweig
The Universum on Neue Straße opened on 29 October 1953 as the Metro-Filmtheater, designed by the architect Wilhelm Schulte. After a letter from MGM it has been called Universum since 3 September 1957. Since reopening in 2009 it has been Braunschweig's only arthouse cinema, with two auditoriums and series such as Cinema! Italia! and DOK am Montag. Its 2024 documentary programme won a federal cinema programme award.
