Thalia — Cinema. Coffee and Cycling

One screen and seventy-five seats on the Görlitzer Straße, in the middle of the Neustadt, run as a repertory house rather than a first-run cinema, with a handful of screenings a week. The standing series is called Das Original ist besser!, and that is where the subtitled prints sit. The operator marks them in the title, OmdU for German subtitles and OmeU for English, and about half the programme carries one. What it leaves unmarked is German-language cinema, mostly German and Austrian documentary and independent film. The room doubles as a bar and a bicycle workshop, which is where the rest of the name comes from, and it is let out for the occasional late-night concert.
