Immermannstraße 39, 44147 Dortmund
The sweetSixteen grew out of a Dortmund film club that toured the city with a portable projector (the Kokerei Hansa, the Rombergpark, the Phoenixhalle) before renting a disused parts store in the Depot, the former tram works in the Nordstadt that is now a cultural centre. Members did the conversion themselves, building the raked seating by hand, and opened on 2 October 2009. It is run non-commercially by the sweetSixteen-filmclub e.V.: one hall of about 140 seats, three films a day six days a week, no advertising before the film, and a schedule that is played whether or not it sells. The name is the 16mm format, of which the club keeps some 3,000 prints and still projects. Most screenings are dubbed. Wednesday is the original-version slot, with German subtitles.
