Roxy Dortmund

The Roxy was built on Münsterstraße in 1932, destroyed in 1943 and reopened in 1950, and it has been the Nordstadt's neighbourhood cinema ever since, a few minutes on foot from Dortmund's main station. Its previous operators gave up at the end of June 2022 after eleven years, and the sweetSixteen-filmclub e.V., which runs the sweetSixteen in the Depot, took the house over that September. It works as a members' association, five euros a month, with volunteers at the box office, one screen and an early, main and late show each day. The programme is that of a Programmkino: new arthouse releases held over for weeks rather than rotated out. Films run in German dubbed versions, with the Friday showings of the same titles in the original with German subtitles.
