naxos.Kino is a weekly documentary evening rather than a daily cinema: every Tuesday at 19:00 one film, followed by a discussion with its director or an expert on the subject. It started on 11 October 2005 and has been a registered non-profit since autumn 2008, run by a volunteer team of about fifteen who vote on the programme. It screens in the hall of the Theater Willy Praml at the Produktionshaus Naxos on Waldschmidtstraße in the Ostend, opposite the Mousonturm — the listed machine hall of the Naxos-Union grinding-machine works, which the theatre has occupied since 2000. The programme favours socio-political subjects and current events, with films on art, music and theatre alongside; German productions run in German, international ones with German subtitles. In winter the screenings move to the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, because the hall is unheated.
