The Kinoklub on Hirschlachufer showed its first film on 6 May 1975, Jaromil Jireš's "… und ich grüße die Schwalben". It was founded as one of the first club cinemas in the GDR and is now the oldest cinema in Erfurt. An association has run it since 1991. The single auditorium has seated 60 since new seating went in in 2014. Digital projection arrived in October 2013, and a 35 mm projector is still there for analogue prints. A cinema programme for seniors has run since 2005, and since 1996 the Kinoklub has shown films in the Kulturhof Krönbacken in summer.
