Gondel

A single-hall arthouse cinema in Schwachhausen, showing films since 1953 and digital since 2012, one of four Bremen arthouse cinemas under the same operator. The red velvet seats stand in fifteen widely spaced rows facing a screen of almost 50 m². The foyer is fitted out as a French bistro, with a long bar, dark wood tables, gilt-framed mirrors and star photographs. The programme leans to demanding European cinema. Of the four houses this one runs the fewest subtitled prints: roughly one screening in twenty is an original version. The Gondel alone carries the Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet transmissions from September to May, plus the Berliner Philharmoniker New Year's Eve concert.
