Schüruferstraße 330, 44287 Dortmund
The Filmbühne is the last of the 51 suburban cinemas Dortmund once had. It stands on Schüruferstraße in Schüren, in what was the dance hall attached to the inn beside the Hotel zur Postkutsche, the name everyone still uses. In 1954 the owner had the floor raked and the stage raised, put in a screen and seats, and opened it as a cinema. The stage survives behind a screen that can be drawn back and was used for theatre and dance into the 1980s; puppet theatre still plays there a few times a year. Repeated renovations have not taken the fifties out of the place: ticket booth, foyer, one comfortable hall. The programme is mainstream and family first-run, and every upcoming screening in our listings is the German-dubbed version. Occasional events are run together with local sports clubs and workshops for people with disabilities.
