Weisshaus Köln

Luxemburger Straße 253, 50939 Köln

The Theater am Weißhaus opened on Luxemburger Straße in Sülz in 1953 with room for 750, and closed in 1974 in the cinema crisis. What survived was the studio in the building next door, taken over by Manfred Kremer in 1976 and called the Weisshaus ever since. A second hall of 72 seats followed three years later, and the cinema still runs on those two screens. It works as a neighbourhood cinema for Sülz, Klettenberg and Lindenthal and as a cinéma d'art et d'essai: European film art, international narrative cinema, children's films on weekend afternoons. The federal culture ministry has awarded it a programme prize every year since 2010, the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW likewise, and Europa Cinemas supports it. Everything in our listings plays in a German version.
