Traumpalast Waiblingen

Waiblingen's first purpose-built cinema, the 630-seat Staufen-Theater, opened in the side wing of a commercial block on Bahnhofstraße on 24 January 1956, and the little Piccolo was added next door in 1961. Heinz Lochmann bought the site in 1998, rebuilt the whole fabric with added storeys and infill, and opened the Traumpalast hall by hall between December 1999 and July 2000. Eight screens and around 1,000 seats came out of that. Salome is the 270-seat flagship in blue, with forged metal blossoms on the walls; Athina sits under a ceiling of slowly swinging lights; Theatro, the former Piccolo, is fitted out as a red theatre salon; and Clou was the bistro until 2008. Programming is first-run and largely dubbed, but Wednesday evenings belong to Kommunales Kino Waiblingen e. V., which runs its own selection in the house.
