The building on Eduard-Breuninger-Straße has shown films since 1939, when the Bäuerle family, cinema operators in Backnang since 1915, opened the Neues Filmtheater there to plans by the architect Otto Nußbaum. The archive allekinos.com notes that the street front is still much as it was. The house grew inwards: the balcony became a second screen in 1986, part of the foyer a third, and two more halls followed around 2010. Heinz Lochmann, who ran it from 1985 to 1997, took it back in 2012 and renamed it Traumpalast. Blue is the theme throughout: Blue Star, Blue Sky, Blue Diamond, Blue Motion and Blue Velvet, some 570 seats in all. The 200-seat Blue Star has Dolby Atmos and VIP D-Box motion seats. The programme is mainstream first-run and almost entirely dubbed, with children's matinees, classical relays and a short open-air season each summer in the courtyard of the Schickhardt-Realschule.
