Linden Theater Frechen

Heinrich Bucco opened the Linden-Theater on Lindenstraße on 6 September 1957 as the fifth and newest cinema in Frechen, with 461 seats and a VW Beetle of the same year parked in the ticket hall, pushed outside before each show. It is the only one of the five still working. Apart from projection and sound, now 4K with 7.1, little has changed: the auditorium was listed as a monument in 1993 and the original seating was refurbished rather than replaced. After Bucco's death the non-profit Linden-Theater e.V. took over the running of the house, and in 2022 it bought the building. One screen, current releases from Thursday to Tuesday, arthouse on Wednesdays, plus children's programmes and themed nights. The Film- und Medienstiftung NRW has given it programme prizes several years running, including a 2022 award for sustainable operation. Screenings are almost all in German.
