Lichtspiele Kalk Köln

There has been a cinema at Kalk-Mülheimer-Straße 130 since 1948, when Peter Lehmacher opened the Union-Kino with around 300 seats. It closed in the 1970s and the room spent decades as a disco and then a free church. Jennifer Schlieper and Felix Seifert put a cinema back into it and opened the Lichtspiele Kalk on 22 December 2017. The restored balcony and the trapezoid ceiling survive. There are now 95 seats, one screen, 4K projection with Dolby 7.1, and step-free access throughout. It works as a neighbourhood cinema for Kalk with a bill that changes weekly: current releases, repertory and classics, Turkish premieres, children's and school screenings, and series such as the exploitation strand Something Weird Cinema. Most of the screenings we have listed here are undubbed rather than German-language versions, which is unusual for a cinema this size.
