The IMAX at the Technik Museum Sinsheim is one of only two halls in Germany able to show the full 1.43:1 IMAX frame, and at 27 × 22 metres it is the largest IMAX screen in Europe in that format. It opened in 1996 as a classic Grand Theatre cinema running 15/70 mm film and switched to dual 4K laser projection in 2016; what remained is the almost square screen, where a film shot on IMAX cameras is not cropped at the top and bottom. A 12-channel sound system completes the setup. Daytime belongs to 45-minute documentaries in 2D and 3D, evenings to current releases. The cinema sits on the museum grounds between a Concorde and a Tupolev, though tickets can be booked independently of museum admission. KinoNow lists the evening feature screenings; the daytime documentaries are sold only through the museum.
