Filmpalast Zittau

The address, Markt 9, is the Gasthof Zur Goldenen Sonne, a baroque house from the first half of the 18th century whose heavy portal dominates one side of Zittau's market square. The front building has stood empty for years and now serves mainly as the way through to the cinema, which occupies the rear building on the plot: already a cinema in GDR times, renewed and extended shortly after 1990, and still the largest cinema building in Zittau, with a wide foyer and four screens. Kino 1 and the foyer were rebuilt by October 2022, with electrically adjustable leather seats and laser projection, backed by the Free State of Saxony and the federal film board. In 2019 the town council committed up to two million euros of urban-renewal money to the whole ensemble. Every upcoming screening listed here is dubbed into German.
