Filmpalast Nordhausen

Nordhausen's cinema was built between 1953 and 1955 to designs by Friedrich Stabe, and is reckoned the first cinema built in the Erfurt district after 1945. It opened on 12 June 1954 as the Filmtheater Neue Zeit, folded into a four-storey block of flats and shops on Töpferstraße with a central projecting bay marking the foyer entrance. The detailing follows the manner of Berlin's Stalinallee. The auditorium ran 48 metres deep and six metres high, held 800 seats and had a stage with an orchestra pit. It was later divided into today's four screens, the largest seating 266. The Central Café still occupies the ground floor. A CineStar house until 2013, it has traded under the Kieft & Kieft family firm's Filmpalast brand since that November. Programming is mainstream first-run in German, with a monthly Seniorenkino served with coffee and cake, anime nights and holiday mornings for children.
