Filmpalast Kassel

The multiplex at Karlsplatz 8, a few steps from Friedrichsplatz and the Königstraße, opened on 13 January 2000 as the UFA-Palast, designed by the Cologne practice Fuhrmann, Wallrath and Weinert. UFA's insolvency turned it into a CineStar. The Kieft family, which owns the building, took over the operation in 2019 and reopened it after a complete rebuild on 15 October 2020 with 15 screens and 1,757 seats. Two of those halls reconstruct cinemas the multiplex boom had closed: the Neue Kaskade, with a golden prism ceiling, red velvet seats and illuminated water displays played to music before each show, after Paul Bode's 1952 Kaskade on Königsplatz, and the small Bambi. The rest lean towards spectacle: IMAX in Kino 1, a 4DX hall, a 270-degree ScreenX, two 31-seat studios and a children's room with sofas and beanbags. The programme is mainstream first-run and almost entirely dubbed.
