Filmpalast Görlitz

The Palast-Theater is a cinema in a former hotel at the corner of Jakobstraße and Bahnhofstraße, minutes from Görlitz station. The building was the Rheinischer, later Preußischer and Europäischer Hof until 1919, when a 756-seat cinema was fitted into its ballroom. Ufa leased it from 1924 and installed a Christie organ whose grille can still be made out on the balcony. A rebuild in 1931 took it to 1,000 seats, reopening as the Ufa-Palast. It has been the Palast-Theater since the war, and Sovexport gave it the round, multi-storey entrance in 1950. Five halls were carved out of the building in 1992 and four more opened alongside in 2018. Two Gold Class studios of 22 sofa seats each sit below the old balcony. The operator says it also programmes arthouse, opera relays and original versions in English and Polish; our listings show a mainstream first-run schedule, four of 94 upcoming screenings undubbed.
