Neue Straße 14, 29221 Celle
The Kammer-Lichtspiele is a six-screen cinema in Celle's old town, at Neue Straße 14. It opened on 3 May 1913 in the ballroom of the Gesellschaftshaus by the Brandplatz. Annemarie and Otto Hildebrandt took the cinema on in 1928; after the war the occupation authorities held the building and released it only in 1952, whereupon a ten-day rebuild gave it a new front. Their grandson Stephan Rissmann ran it from 1965, turning it into a three-screen centre in the 1970s and opening Kammer 4 in 1983 as an art-film room. Rebuilds in 1997 and 2000 produced the six halls, Kammer 1 to 6, it has today. The Filmpalast group took over in summer 2026 and reopened on 3 July, keeping the name. Alongside dubbed first-run releases the house has long run an art-film strand, a sneak preview and live Met Opera relays.
