Filmpalast Bautzen

The Filmpalast occupies a listed building on Tuchmacherstraße in Bautzen's inner city that started life as the Albertgarten concert and ballroom. Its dance hall was converted into a cinema in 1919, the Centraltheater, renamed Zentral-Theater a year later. It was rebuilt after wartime damage and reworked for CinemaScope in 1959. Kieft made it a four-screen house that reopened in August 1992. A modernisation running several years and finished in 2020 doubled that to eight screens. Two are Gold Class rooms with reclining seats and drinks served at the seat, and the historic Saal 1, restored last and with sofas on the balcony, remains the largest. Because the building is protected, Saxony covered half the cost. Everything we currently list here plays German-dubbed. This is the town's mainstream first-run cinema, not a house for original versions.
