Poetenweg 6-8, 08056 Zwickau
The Astoria is a multiplex on Poetenweg in Zwickau, where Bahnhofstraße runs into the city centre. It opened in 1929, built for the Munich cinema owner Otto Pietzsch, with a broad, plainly modern front and just over a thousand seats in one hall. Constantin bought it from the Treuhand in 1991. Kieft & Kieft took over in 1994 and reopened it that May, after six months of work, as a seven-screen centre built new behind the old façade. It traded as CineStar until November 2013 and has been the Filmpalast Astoria since. A 2018 refit replaced the seating, and four small screens were added at Christmas 2019, bringing the house to eleven. Of the screenings we currently list, almost all are German-dubbed.
