Cineplex Titania

The Titania Palast is one of Berlin's great cinema monuments. Opened in January 1928 in the New Objectivity style, its thirty-metre illuminated corner tower became an instant Steglitz landmark. The original hall seated nearly two thousand and hosted an orchestra of sixty; in the post-war years, the Berlin Philharmonic gave its first concert here, the Free University held its founding ceremony within these walls, and Josephine Baker, Marlene Dietrich, and Louis Armstrong all graced its stage. After decades of dormancy, the building was restored in 1995 as a five-screen Cineplex, preserving its heritage-listed Art Deco exterior. To enter the Titania is to walk through a century of Berlin cultural history compressed into a single foyer.
