Cinéma Frankfurt

The Cinéma opened on 31 August 1956 at Roßmarkt 7, a few steps from the Hauptwache, as a single grey-and-gold hall of about 400 seats. The house calls itself the last city-centre cinema left in Frankfurt from the Wirtschaftswunder years. It passed from its founders Paula and Uwe Mewes to UFA Theater AG, which ran it until the chain's insolvency, stood dark for a while in the mid-2000s, and in 2016 became the first of Christopher Bausch's Arthouse Kinos Frankfurt. There are three screens now: the Lumière with 218 step-free seats, which takes the premieres, the Cine-Studio with 115, and the Cine-Petit with around 60. The bar is fitted out like a 1920s French bistro and serves quiche, macarons and regional wine. This is the group's busiest house and its most mainstream one. Arthouse releases run mostly in German here, with only a small part of the schedule subtitled rather than dubbed.
