Düsseldorfer Str. 2, 40822 Mettmann
The Weltspiegel opened on 2 August 1907 on Düsseldorfer Straße and describes itself, as does most German reporting on it, as the oldest cinema in Germany to have been used as one without interruption ever since. The 1907 façade is a listed monument; nothing behind it is. ECCOPLEXX Mettmann GmbH took the house over on 30 June 2016 and rebuilt foyer and auditoriums completely, so a business that began with silent film now has three modern halls of roughly 134, 136 and 43 seats, with an open-air venue listed as a fourth screen for the summer. For a small town it is a full programme: current releases alongside arthouse, plus school screenings. Upcoming listings are all German-language.
