The Tilsiter Lichtspiele has been showing films on Richard-Sorge-Straße in Friedrichshain since 1908, which makes it one of the oldest surviving cinemas in a city that once had hundreds. It has two screens and a bar furnished with battered sofas, where the evening often starts or refuses to end. Late-night screenings are a tradition here. The programme ranges across arthouse, repertory and the occasional genre curiosity, picked to the operators' own taste rather than to market logic.
