The Rex Lichtspieltheater is an arthouse cinema in Bonn-Endenich at Frongasse 9. It was built in the early 1950s as a neighbourhood cinema. Screenings stopped at the end of the 1970s, and in 1981 it reopened as a programme cinema, founded out of a student film club. Sound has run through a 6-channel Dolby Digital system since 1996, and the house has belonged to the Europa Cinemas network since May 2002. Its programme is mainly European premieres, around 160 films a year, of which about 15 percent are shown in the original with German subtitles. The Rex also screens Royal Opera House relays and accepts Cineville.
