From May to September the LURU-Kino moves outside and projects onto a brick wall of the old cotton mill, on the yard directly in front of the cinema. Screenings run several evenings a week, Wednesday to Saturday, and begin at 21:15, once it is properly dark; there are chairs, and people bring blankets and sit on the ground. Drinks and something to eat come from a converted bus parked alongside, and no advance booking is needed — you turn up and pay at the screen. The programme is the indoor one carried outdoors: current arthouse and documentary mixed with revivals that suit an audience in the open, each title listed as OmU or dubbed so you know before you set off. The setting is half the reason to come — ten hectares of nineteenth-century industrial brick, the galleries shut for the night, and a film on the wall of what was once the continent's largest cotton mill.
