The Obscura on Schillerstraße in Ulm is a small cinema with an independent and experimental programme. It is named after the camera obscura, the optical ancestor of cinema. Ulm and Neu-Ulm also have the Mephisto and the Dietrich Theater. The city has a design tradition of its own: the HfG Ulm helped define post-war German industrial aesthetics.
