Neue Filmbühne Bonn

The Neue Filmbühne is in Beuel, on Friedrich-Breuer-Straße, and is one of the oldest cinemas in Bonn. Heinrich Wenigmann had been showing films in his parents' function room before he opened it properly in 1933. A foyer and a balcony were added in 1938, and a fire at Easter 1954 destroyed the curtains, screen and loudspeakers. It seated around 280 in the 1950s, then declined as television took hold and the first-run films stayed on the other side of the Rhine. Dieter Hertel and Gila Brenig, who already ran the Rex in Endenich, leased it and reopened it as the Neue Filmbühne in September 1986. One hall, 186 red velvet seats, digital projection since 2012, a member of Europa Cinemas since 2002. The programme is European auteur cinema, documentaries and audience-requested classics; most screenings we list are in German, with the occasional original version.
