The Moviemento was founded in 1907 on Kottbusser Damm in Kreuzberg, near Kottbusser Tor, and has a credible claim to being one of the oldest continuously operating cinemas anywhere. It has stayed open through two world wars, division and reunification, with its single screen intact. It is run today as a cooperative, owned collectively by its members.
