The Metropolis Kino on Kleine Theaterstraße in Hamburg's city centre is operated by the Kinemathek Hamburg, a nonprofit organisation that also maintains a film archive. Located directly beside the Hamburg State Opera, it offers three to four daily screenings of classic, rare and repertory films alongside silent film concerts, readings and film talks. The Metropolis functions as Hamburg's cinematic memory, preserving and presenting film history in an accessible, central location.
