Löwenlichtspiele Rudersberg

Heinz Lochmann's aunt built the Löwenlichtspiele on Welzheimer Straße in 1956, in Rudersberg in the Wieslauf valley between Schorndorf and Backnang. She died in 1974 and her nephew, then a teenager, looked after the cinema in his spare time before making it his living; every Traumpalast in the region grew out of this one house, and he has kept it running. There are two screens — 100 seats in Kino 1, sixteen of them in the loge and four full recliners, 40 seats in Kino 2 — and a curtain still opens in front of both. Local reporting calls it the smallest cinema for miles and a destination people drive out from Stuttgart for: the programme leans to German and European arthouse, documentaries and literary adaptations rather than the multiplex list. Screenings are in German throughout.
