KINOPOLIS Freiberg brings five screens and 863 seats to the Silberstadt — the Silver City — of Saxony, a medieval mining town whose eight hundred and fifty years of history earned it a place in the UNESCO World Heritage Erzgebirge Mining Region. Situated on Chemnitzer Straße on the outskirts of a town famed for its late-Gothic patrician houses and the world-renowned Silbermann organ in St. Mary's Cathedral, the cinema serves a community whose cultural identity is rooted in centuries of silver extraction and the world's oldest mining academy. The five screens, all fully air-conditioned with 7.1 surround sound and partial 3D capability, range from 161-seat halls to a larger 251-seat auditorium. Programming spans blockbusters, previews, seniors' cinema, and children's screenings, calibrated for a town of around 41,000 inhabitants. An on-site restaurant rounds out the offering. In a city where the treasures of terra mineralia glitter in Freudenstein Castle, the KINOPOLIS provides a different kind of spectacle — one projected in light rather than hewn from rock.
