Kino in der Lagerhalle

The Lagerhalle is the warehouse the iron-goods wholesaler Rudolph Richter left empty in 1972, when it moved its stock out of Osnabrück's old town. The city bought it in December 1974 for 465,000 DM. Conversion began in February 1976 on 600,000 DM of federal stimulus money, which did not cover the whole job. The house opened as a culture and communication centre on 12 December 1976, run by the non-profit LAGERHALLE e.V. on behalf of the city under a contract signed that November. The cinema began screening in spring 1977, out of the municipal film movement of the time. Because the house also books concerts and cabaret, films are programmed by the day rather than by the week. Screenings run in the Saal, which seats up to 220. It is a venue of the European Media Art Festival, and nordmedia's programming prize for non-commercial cinemas went to it again in June 2026, for the 2025 programme.
