Kino im Walzenlager Oberhausen

The cinema sits in the former roll store, the Walzenlager, of the Altenberg zinc works, a Gründerzeit factory complex that closed in 1981 and became the sociocultural Zentrum Altenberg. It shares the site with the LVR industrial museum, opposite the west exit of Oberhausen's main station. It first opened in 1993, closed again in 1998, and was brought back on 19 October 2000 by Jörg Kluge, who still runs it. Forty-five seats, seven euros at the door, and an arthouse selection that turns over slowly: a small number of current releases, a Sunday screening at two, the FabrikKino series programmed with the industrial museum, and beer-garden screenings in summer. Its programming has been awarded repeatedly by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. Everything we list here runs in German.
