Pelmkestraße 14, 58089 Hagen
The Kino Babylon is the only arthouse cinema in Hagen and sits inside the Kulturzentrum Pelmke at Pelmkestraße 14. It opened in 1996 and is run by volunteers together with programme director Alexander Thiele, with around 30 screenings a month. It shows European arthouse films, documentaries and debut works, plus the occasional blockbuster. Fixed screening days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday or Saturday; the Tuesday 20:00 show runs in its original language with German subtitles. Sundays and Thursdays carry series such as Kirchen & Kino, Kino kulinarisch and Klarsichtkino. During the North Rhine-Westphalia summer holidays the regular programme pauses for the open-air cinema in the cultural centre's backyard.
