Kino achteinhalb is a volunteer-run, non-profit arthouse cinema in Celle. It sits in building 11 on the grounds of the CD-Kaserne at Hannoversche Straße 30F. The association was founded in early 1995 and pays for its screenings without public funding, through admission and membership fees. The name refers to Federico Fellini's film 8½ (Otto e mezzo) from 1963. The cinema is a single room that holds the screen, the seats and the bar. The projector runs behind glass, in full view of the audience. Every film has a break of about 15 minutes in the middle to change the reel. The programme is mostly current films from the upper end of the arthouse segment, and the regular slots run on Friday and Saturday at 20.30. The house has won several regional film-programme awards for its work.
