A cinema inside the Anzeiger-Hochhaus, the expressionist brick tower Fritz Höger finished in 1928 and one of the few Hannover buildings to survive the war nearly intact. Films have run here since December 1928, first as the Planetarium-Lichtspiele, a 210-seat Kulturfilmbühne with a Welte cinema organ where Dziga Vertov presented his documentaries; it burned out in March 1945. Karl Homann reopened the house on 6 December 1949 as the Hochhaus-Lichtspiele, a studio für filmkunst with 400 seats under the green copper dome. The Kino am Raschplatz has run it since 1982. Since October 2016 the dome auditorium has been closed for restoration and the programme plays in an art-deco interim hall in the former banking hall: arthouse first-run, Sunday matinées at 11:00, retrospectives of literary adaptations and a monthly subtitled original-version sneak preview.
