Oberstr. 95, 41460 Neuss
The Hitch is Neuss's arthouse cinema, a single screen upstairs in the former Horten department store on the Oberstraße in the old town. Helmut Kettler started it in 1983, by his account the first specialised arthouse between Cologne and Essen, after a first, dilapidated home in the town centre. The cinema marked forty years in 2023 and is run today by Detlef Ritz. It works to a printed monthly plan rather than a weekly turnover, with only a handful of titles running at a time: current arthouse releases, first runs and themed evenings, plus Kinderkino Kunterbunt for children from six. Both the main programme and the children's strand have been awarded repeatedly by the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW. Tickets are €10, €8 for afternoon shows.
