Gschwenderstraße 7, 87616 Marktoberdorf
The Filmburg (Filmburg - Das Theaterkino) is at Gschwenderstraße 7 in Marktoberdorf. The house opened as a cinema in 1956, closed in 1997 and reopened as a Programmkino in 2001. In 2014 a digital Sony 4K projector replaced the 35mm machines, and a larger screen and a new sound system were added. For special occasions historic films still run on the old projectors. The building has been under heritage protection since 2008 and is recorded in the archive of the Architekturmuseum der Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich. Alongside films the Filmburg also stages theatre, concerts and readings on a large stage. It is run by Monika Schubert with a volunteer team. In 2026 the cinema marks its 70th anniversary.
