Film-Eck Wermelskirchen

The Film-Eck is a 93-seat cinema in a hall built in 1890 behind a Wermelskirchen inn, where Ewald Schiffler opened the Reichshallen-Lichtspiele on 14 October 1927. The family has held it ever since, the third generation since 1972. After the post-war rebuild the room seated close to 500. In 1986 the screen was pulled seven metres into the hall and the cinema reopened, much smaller, under its present name: 93 upholstered seats with unusually wide row spacing and a bar at the back that stays open during the film. Digital projection arrived in December 2013. There is a short pre-programme and no advertising. Screenings run Friday to Monday, and the calendar also carries a monthly afternoon series for older guests, a church-run film evening and a theatre night staged by the local cultural association.
