Delphi Arthaus Kino

Stuttgart's oldest surviving cinema opened on 15 March 1912 as the Union-Theater on Tübinger Straße, reviewed at the time as the finest picture palace in the royal capital. It came through the bombing of the city centre in 1944 comparatively lightly and was projecting again a year later. New owners rebuilt it in 1965, splitting the auditorium in two and giving the house the name it still carries; the halls are now the Buñuel with 200 seats and the Lubitsch with 77. Run together with the Atelier am Bollwerk as Arthaus Filmtheater Stuttgart, the Delphi is the original-version house of the two: most of what it shows is subtitled or in the original language. The programme runs to European and American independent work, French-language releases, and festivals — CineLatino, Cinema Italia, the Französische Filmtage, the German-Turkish SiNEMA.
