The CineStar on Bodanstraße in Konstanz stands by Lake Constance, a five-minute walk from the Swiss border. Because the town lay so close to Switzerland it was spared wartime bombing, and the old town kept its medieval streets. Swiss visitors cross over for screenings, so the audience is binational. The programme is mainstream. Konstanz also has a theatre, a university and the Konzilgebäude, where a pope was once elected.
