The Cineplex in Saalfeld stands on Blankenburger Straße. The Thuringian town lies on the Saale in the wooded highlands, where the river valley forms a natural corridor between the old cultural centres of Weimar and Jena and the Franconian towns to the south. Saalfeld is best known for the Feengrotten, former alum mines turned into fairy-tale grottoes whose coloured mineral formations draw visitors all year. The medieval centre keeps its churches and its market square.
