Cinémathèque in der naTo

The naTo at Südplatz is one of Leipzig's oldest cultural houses in independent hands. The building went up in the 1950s as a meeting place for the GDR's Nationale Front. The house dates its own life to a concert held there in May 1982, and grew from there into a venue for jazz, new music and performance. The Cinémathèque Leipzig has supplied its film programme since the early 1990s, and for many years the naTo was the association's main venue: a black-box hall with raked seating, a projector and a bar, showing films in the original with subtitles between the concerts, theatre and readings. The house closed for about ten months of renovation (insulation, step-free access, a new audience rostrum, new technology) and reopened on 7 March 2026. Nothing is listed here at the moment: the film programme rests over the summer while the Cinémathèque plays its open-airs, and comes back when they end.
